Senior citizens are one of the most targeted demographics by scammers. The problem is that it works. They tend to have more assets to steal and are not able to fend off the high-paced, high complexity of today’s attacks. Now, more than ever, we have to do everything we can to protect this vulnerable community. I have created a presentation that anyone can take to their local retirement community to present. It’s easy to read, easy to learn, and easy to teach.

You do not need to be a cyber security expert to be able to present this to slide deck. You just need to take a little bit of time and empathy out into the world.

I, myself, wasn’t sure how to start doing this. I literally googled the closest retirement community and walked in the front door. I asked if they would be up for me coming to talk to their residents. To my pleasant surprise, they were extremely receptive and excited. To my dismay, when I gave the talk, I was the only person under 80 the residents had talked to in weeks. So I really encourage you, the reader, to take this deck and get out there.

Typically a retirement home has an activities coordinator. That is usually the person I’ve talked to. In almost every instance when I approach the front desk they just give me that person’s card and send an email. Some places already had someone doing this kind of talk, and that’s ok. Just move on to the next one. I also highly encourage you to commit to returning once a year. People forget or get complacent. We all need reminding.

I will do my best to improve and update this slide deck as I get suggestions or more information. So check back periodically for the most up do date version.

Thank you for reading and thank you for doing what you can to protect a resource that is so vital to our thriving.
